I have previously commented on the litigation arising out of the 2005 Wangarry or Eyre Peninsula fires in South Australia – see
South Australian litigation ends;
Litigation over the 2005 South Australian Wangarry fires;
Litigation from the 2005 Lower Eyre Peninsula (“Wangarry”) fires continues
News.com.au is reporting that the final settlement has now been approved in the South Australian Supreme Court with a payment to the plaintiffs of $8 million: ‘$60 million lawsuit over deadly 2005 eyre peninsula bushfires ends with $8 million compromise deal‘ (17 december 2013).
The judge’s comments when making the approval are not yet available but I will make a further post commenting on the outcome when the judgement is published.
