The National Library of Australia is attempting to archive at least a part of the Australian online world. According to their website (http://pandora.nla.gov.au/about.html):
PANDORA, Australia’s Web Archive, is a growing collection of Australian online publications, established initially by the National Library of Australia in 1996, and now built in collaboration with nine other Australian libraries and cultural collecting organisations.
The name, PANDORA, is an acronym that encapsulates our mission: Preserving and Accessing Networked Documentary Resources of Australia.
I’m pleased to say that I’ve been approached by the Pandora team and have been asked for, and have given, permission for this blog site to be added to the archive. When the process is complete the blog will be stored as part of Australia’s writing heritage in perpetuity and will also be available via the National Library web site.
They don’t archive everything, the material has to meet their ‘collecting scope and priorities’ (see http://pandora.nla.gov.au/selectionguidelines.html). To have my blog selected for archiving is something I’m pretty proud of! But it’s not just my blog, thank you to all the readers of the blog who’ve added comments and asked questions that have given me the topics to write about. I hope the blog will continue to be of interest not just for now but ‘in perpetuity’.
