Dear Readers
As part of my transition to retirement, I decided that I would not ask for continued sponsorship of this blog. As I explained to my sponsors ‘The blog needs a refresh if it is to keep up with the technology and rise again to the top of people’s social media feeds, and I don’t feel prepared to do what needs to be done in that regard.’
So just to confirm: this is a transition to retirement. The blog will keep going but it will return to being a ‘labour of love’ rather than part of my job. But nothing can last forever (and this blog is now 16 years old, the first post was in January 2009) so I will continue it only for as long as I continue to enjoy it and think it is of use but without a contracted obligation to continue.
I thank my sponsors for their support when I did need the income to keep going and I thank them and all my subscribers for your continued interest in what I write.
Regards
Michael Eburn

Hi Michael, have a fabulous retirement. I have really enjoyed your Blog over the years and hopefully you will continue with it for as long as you want to do it. Best wishes and thank you, Simon
Just wanted to say Thanks. I’ve enjoyed reading your blog for many years.
Enjoy retirement, and doing what you want for the love of it!

Thank you Michael. May your labour of love continue long into your retirement:-)
I still read every post even though I have retired from ES many years ago. Always informative and often relevant to other circumstances.
Cheers…Steve
Michael I concur with Simon’s comment. I will enjoy the blog for as long as you want to keep it going. Cheers
Richard
Thank you again for the time and wise comments that allow many of us to remain current in this fast paced world. I look forward to whats to come from the labour of love 🙂
Kind Regartds, Greg Cook.
Thank you for your invaluable contribution to the Volunteer RFS. AS Volunteers good legal information is difficult to afford or get and your voluntary information has made you one of the “hero’s” in the eyes of the public.
From a personal point of view it has made my position as a senior Volunteer much more tenable.
THANK YOU
Hi Micheal
Thanks so much for your effort keeping your blog alive for so many years. I hope your âlabour of loveâ continues for many more years. It’s kept me interested, given me different perspectives, helped me make sense of the emergency management sector and given me an excuse to think critically and with curiosity.
All the best, warm regards, Tim

Thank you Michael. I am a better paramedic for having access to your blog. Best of luck!
Dear Michael
Thank you for many years of great reading with an area of law I had no connection. Your commentary is erudite, well-explained for the non-lawyers and never ceases to amaze the variety of problems that arise in the context of an emergency.
I also remember you had the humongous version of the Swiss Army knife when we volunteered at Kingsford Legal Centre in the late 80’s.
Retirement will be boring, so keep blogging.
Best regards
Abe Schwartz
thank you Sir
You have helped deepen my understanding of law and how it applies to the RFS.
Much appreciated,

Dear Michael, Thanks for the past efforts and very informative information. As a regular reader I am sorry to see you finish up but understand the retirement position. Enjoy you retirement and thanks David Turner
Just to reiterate, I am not ‘finishing up’ I am no longer sponsored. As I said in my post “The blog will keep going but it will return to being a ‘labour of love’ rather than part of my job. … I will continue it only for as long as I continue to enjoy it and think it is of use but without a contracted obligation to continue.’
“The reports of my [blog’s] death are greatly exaggerated”
Good to hear Michael. You have and continue to supply valuable information to the ES sector and as a volunteer firie you deserve a medal for the service you have given. Enjoy your “transition” and hopefully you’ll keep writing even after you have actually retired.
Cheers and thank you,
Tom

Your contributions will be missed when the decision is made decide to step away😊. Your considered analyses are always at the top of my email list and have contributed in spades to understanding and appreciating the nuances in working in essential services. A standout for me was your astute yet accessible summary of the amendments to the Privacy Act.
Clear and considered writing is rare to access currently; often behind paywalls and your efforts are always very appreciated. Kind regards.
