Amendments to this Act came into force on 14 January 2011. The amendments clarify the role of the State Emergency Operations Controller, the State Emergency Recovery Controller and the State Emergency Management Committee. The Amendments also clarify the right of police to seek assistance in the performance of their duties in an emergency (so for example they can call on the SES or RFS to assist them).
An interesting amendement is the obligation upon an accredited rescue unit to notify police if they are called to a rescue. Previously that obligation fell to the Ambulance or Fire Brigades but not other rescue units operated by the SES or Volunteer Rescue Association. Now if the SES are rung directly and asked to provide rescue services (which includes the rescue of domestic animals) they must tell the police that they have been ‘called out’ .
The amendments were contained in the State Emergency and Rescue Management Amendment Act 2010 (NSW). To help I include some links
The 1989 Act but at the time of writing this has not been updated to include the changes from the 2010 Act. Eventually this link will have the Act with the 2010 changes included.
